    What is NPK and what are its source? NPK is the most important constituent of the majority of the fertilizers composition in the world today. NPK complex comprised primarily of the three primary nutrients (Nitrogen, Phosphorus & Potassium) required for healthy plant growth. The global food demands relies heavily on the use of NPK fertilizer. Plants require these minerals in very high proportion as against other minerals. Those minerals required in high proportions are technically called as macro-nutrients and those required in minor quantities are called as micro-nutrients. Use of Nitrogen Nitrogen is a key component for the growth of any plants. In particular, nitrogen is vital to chlorophyll, which allows plants to carry out photosynthesis. Nitrogen is also a significant component in amino acids, the basis of proteins. Nitrogen also aids in the compounds that allow for storage and use of energy. Use of Phosphorus Phosphorus also plays a role in an array of functions necessary for healthy plant growth, contributing to structural strength, crop quality, seed production, and more. Phosphorus also encourages the growth of roots, promotes blooming, and is essential in DNA. Use of Potassium Potassium is also vital in a variety of other processes that contribute to growth and development. Potassium is often referred to as the “quality element, ” because of its contribution to many of the characteristics we associate with quality, such as size, shape, color, and even taste, among others. Plants low in potassium are stunted in growth and provide lower yields. It is being claimed that, about half of the global population is alive as a result of the increased food production provided by the use of mineral fertilizers. These NPK nutrients are essential for the complete growth of the plant, also these nutrients keeps the plants from being susceptible for diseases. On an unrelenting cultivation, these nutrients are being sucked out of the soil and it is imperative that we put back these organic NPK back to the soil in a natural way. Nitrogen source Inorganic mineral source for nitrogen are urea, urea ammonium nitrate, anyhydrous nitrate etc.. Natural sources for nitrogen are from the air, organic manure, compost, blood meal & feather meal etc. Phosphorus source Primary inorganic phosphorus source is the phosphate rock and the organic source for the same can be from organic manure, bone meal, bio-compost, fish meal etc. Potassium source As similar to phosphate, potassium also mined out of the rock.     SEVEN WAYS TO IMPROVE SOIL FERTILITY - AN ORGANIC WAY If you are interested in having a garden in your backyard or kitchen garden or small vegetable farm, then improving fertility of the soil is paramount importance. Because, most of these soil would have lost the desired essential components of fertility through natural process. For an edible, safe and healthy food, the health of the soil in which it is grown is very critical. There are number of ways to improve the soil fertility. If we coalesce these methods and apply it in our farming, then the result will be phenomenal. 1. Live stock manure Nitrogen and carbon source shall be supplied usually by a livestock manure (cow, pig, sheep, poultry etc). Live stock manure is the best source for organic matter. Origin of these manure must be tracked and verified, exercise caution and avoid these from confined or unhealthy animals source. Compost Addition of dry leaves, vegetable waste, shredded papers, banana peels etc to the soil makes the soil fertile. Multiple cropping Various plants of different sizes and nature, especially legumes will provide multiple benefits to the soil; like nitrogen fixation, diverse nutrient utilization. 4. Plant waste and mulch addition The stem and leaves of the trees elsewhere, can be added along with the soil from the lake bed, if possible. 5. Addition of Humus and seaweed Humic acid, fulvic acid, sea weed etc are the organic and natural bio- agro input ingredients that are available in the market, can be used to provide micro nutrients, humus and major growth promoters etc. These in general, provide balance in pH of the soil and acts as a soil conditioner, in addition, those supplies carbon backbones to the plants. 6. Also it is resistant to bacteria and fungus growth. Coco -peat can hold water and nutrients in the soil and releases it, from time to time. Aeration of the soil is critical for the fertility of the soil and coco-peat provides this for the soil. 7. The field trials of HERO PLUS have brought in very exciting results; wherein, HERO PLUS is found to be superior in its efficacy against various pests as mentioned below: HERO PLUS applied in the range of 2-3ml/Litre of water on cabbage crop of 30 days as well as 60 days old crop. The said field was infested with Cabbage Looper (Trichoplusia ni). It is an active moth in the night and lays egg on the outer surface of the open leaves. The color of its egg is greenish – white and the egg brings out a mature greenish white stripes larvae. These larvae starts eating from the peripheral of the leaves and moves to the centre of the leaves. It is observed that this larvae is the most destructive of larvae. Looper cause great damage to the cabbage head. And once the cabbage is infested with this, it is hard to control its proliferation. However, in our field trial, it was noted that the larvae stops eating immediately after the foliar spray of HEROPLUS in the dose of 2ml/ litre and in addition have noticed the complete mortality within 5 days of its administration. HERO PLUS is found to be effective against Cabbage webworm (Hellula rogatalis). This worm is originated from a moth that are brownish – yellow in color, which has the ability to camouflage with soil color. The respective moth lays eggs on the outer side of the leaf during the maturation stage of the plant. Eggs will bring out a larvae, which are dull, grayish yellow and marked with 5 visible brownish-purple lateral stripes. Their heads bear a V-shaped mark and black in color. In our field trial, it is noted that HEROPLUS on application have brought complete mortality to the webworm within 5 days in the dose of 2-3ml on mature as well as semi mature plants. Our field trials were found to be very effective against diamond back moth caterpillars. Plutella xylostella (Diamond back moths) is a moth that has a special wing (have three diamond shaped mark). These moths move in a faster pace as and when it is disturbed. Their eggs are small and yellowish white in color. On On the other hand, the larvae are light green colored. As the moth race faster its larvae too wiggle out on a faster pace. Further, due to the saliva that forms into a silk like thread, it often it appears to be hanging on it. Eventhough, this larvae prefers young buds of the plant, it feed on all parts of the plant. HEROPLUS found to be very effective against diamond back caterpillars as well.
